To ALL ISR Lecturers we will be having an ISR  meeting on the first and third Wednesday of each consecutive month. These meetings will be held at the Library, 1st floor, Room 3 as follows:

Important note re attendance

Dear colleagues,

Please note the procedure which is being followed as from this academic year with regards to absenteeism.

Procedure related to the implementation of the 80% attendance system for students

1.      Institutes are to retain the present system related to recording of attendance for students.

2.      Students will continue to have their stipend deducted according to their attendance record as per the present system.

3.      Institutes are to continue informing students as they reach benchmarks of absentee rates including a warning that high absentee rates increase students’ chances of not being successful in their course.

4.      Colleges and Institutes are to continue to strengthen their systems to monitor and follow up students who have high absentee rates in order to increase retention rates throughout MCAST.

5.      On passing the 20% overall absentee rate for a particular academic year, a meeting is to be set up with the student concerned and a signed learning agreement drawn up in which the following targets are agreed upon:

·         Attendance targets

·         Attempts of all assignments

·         Any necessary improvements in behaviour (if relevant)

The relevant Deputy Director (Programme Management)  will be driving the learning agreement process in liaison with the relevant Institute Director and the aim of the learning agreement is to serve as a pro-active positive tool to set the student on the right track with regards to attendance. At all times, all students are expected to pass all units in order to be certified. In cases where the learning agreement is not adhered to by the student, following a recommendation by the respective College and Institute, MCAST Principal and MCAST Registrar may decide not to certify the student concerned even if all units are achieved. In such cases, the student’s learning agreement may be extended in order to identify the clear targets which the student needs to achieve in order to be certified.

The Counselling Team at MCAST

The Counselling Team is saddened by the tragic accident which occurred at Hal Farrug during the activity of ‘Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina’.  Our thoughts are with those who were injured, their families and friends, as well as with those who were present and witnessed or assisted this unfortunate incident.

Such an experience can be a traumatic one, leaving you troubled with flashbacks, fear and anxiety, and can be manifested in different ways.  Talking about it helps. 

Crisis counselling is available for both students and staff.  Given this special circumstance, during this week the intake procedure will not apply and a drop-in system is available.  You may also contact us via email on counsellors@mcast.edu.mt.

We appreciate if you could kindly pass on the word with all students since at such an early time in the academic year, we do not have emails of the new ones.
